BTPA - Krikbride Event Report 31/5/08 - 01/06/08

The North West Tractor Pullers Club (NWTPC) invited Scottish Tractors down to compete at their first event of the year at Kirkbride airfield by Carlisle, 8 tractors from Scotland made the trip to Kirkbride. The weather on the Saturday was fantastic with the sun beating down all day, the pulling got under way with the superfarm class. Jim Wilson with Rob Roy ended up the overall winner of the calss beating J D N Smoke and Red Bull, a new case tractor which was very well turned out.

It was then the under 401 Prostock class that took to the track with Andy Wallace and Scotch Mist setting the bar for the rest of the tractors with a full pull, Red Mist was next up and with a new paint job for this year was looking good. However Alasdair Parkinson struggled to get of the line in what looked like too high a gear. Sandy Simpson then took to the track with True Blue and another full pull was the result, Richard Murray was next on Trouble and also got out the far end. John Orwin was next up with Major Madness, with a additional plate fitted to his clutch over the winter he he strugelled to get off the line but on his second attempt showed alot of promise but went out of bounds and was therefore disqualified. Dod Stewart with Major Indecision and Philip McHattie with Aftershock followed with another two pulls. Next up was Chris wilkinson with Lancashire Bomber and looked to get away from the line a bit early and thus not at full boost, once again a good run but when the load came on the tractor was stopped very quickly. Last up was Iain Hawkins on Wicked, got away from the line well and looked good until the load came on and boost pressure dropped pulling him down at 83m just 2m short of the 85m full pull distance at Kirkbride.

Next up was John Eccles with Simply Red which has had a lot of time and effort spent on it over the winter, John looked to get of the line well and was definately building alot of boost, but with the changes to the tractor the different sledge he had a bumpy ride for 30-40m before shutting her down. Billy Walker with Judgement Deere was next to take to the track and easily made it out the far end. Karl Carter then follwed with Desperate Dan, the ground shook as he went down the track easing his way to a full pull

The pit area was then opened to allow the crowds in to look at the tractors and talk to the teams for an hour before the under 401 Pull off, the tractors came back out after the break with the exception of Major Indecision who suffered a breakdown and the results were as follows; 1st - True Blue 2nd - Trouble 3rd - Scotch Mist 4th - Aftershock 5th - Major Indecision 6th - Wicked 7th - Lancashire Bomber 8th - Major Madness

It was then the turn of the truck pullers with Ruddy Lightning, Wicked Blue and Little Wicked (demo only) all putting on a good display, Judgement Deere came out for a second demo run with Nick Rennie at the wheel another great run followed by Rob Armistad on Desperate Dan who fled down the track the final run of the day was a second run by Simply red this time John got the balance right and made the connection showing that the winters work had been worth while.
