Fife Show Event Report 17/5/08

Well that’s the 2008 season finally started! Scottish Tractor Pullers Club sledge The Eliminator has undergone a major overhaul, Ewan Cameron and his team of numerous helpers have greatly modified the sledge and it has now gained certification to National B standard.

It was a refreshing change to have the sun shining for our first event of the season as last year was plagued with wet weather.

The first puller of the day was Jim Wilson with Superfarm tractor Rob Roy, it was a great run proving the sledge modifications have only improved the chances of gaining certification to National A standard in the future.

Second class of the day was the Prostocks with Andy Wallace on Scotch Mist and Sandy Simpson on True Blue both tractors achieved two full pulls but True Blue won the final pull off by 7 metres.

It was then the turn of the Superstocks, Davie Gall with Perkoil Express was first to pull and went the full 100 metres. Second was Ian Ross on Magnum Force, after an initial struggle to lock into the track he got up to full wheel speed but was abruptly stopped by a loud bang, after initial investigation it was discovered that the exhaust turbo wheel had exploded so that ended his chances today.

Alex Rearie was next on the line with Pist n Broke the only over 401 Prostock in Scotland. He was having a great run but just got past 50 metres when the tractor jumped out of gear and ceased the fuel pump so he was also out of the running today.

Before the break the alcohol burning Superstock Judgement Deere was towed down the track and its driver Billy Walker was interviewed by our commentator Norman Lucey, the bonnet of the tractor was lifted and left on display during the break.

Round two started again with Superfarm tractor Rob Roy and its driver Jim Wilson, he managed a distance of 79 metres on the test pull but gained 89 metres on the official pull. Next it was the turn of Andy Wallace on Scotch Mist and Jim Forrest on True Blue to battle it out for the Prostock title, True Blue succeeded again with a distance of 104 metres. The last pull of the day was Davie Gall on Superstock tractor Perkoil Express but unfortunately couldn’t get off the line.

Although the day was plagued by breakages a great day out was had by all.

All those present had to pull together and work that little bit harder to strengthen our health and safety commitments to ensure the continued success of the Scottish Tractor Pullers Club.

Definitely a successful start to the 2008 season.
