Angus Show Event Report 06/06/08

This was the STPC’s only Friday night event of this year , and it went very well. it started at about 7.15pm and there was already an audience appearing. Some spectators had came to watch the preparation for the tractor pulling. The sun was also out to watch the smoke rise from the tractors exhausts. This also contributed towards making the event enjoyable.

Again, Jim Wilson drove up to the sledge to take a test pull, with his Massey Ferguson Rob Roy. The track seemed to be dry and most tractors had their wheels spinning from the very start to the very end of their run. The Eliminator brought Rob Roy to a halt at 33.50m. He then went on to do a pull for the Superfarm Class. This time he took the sledge to 110.31m. The third time he went he got another full pull at 113.27m. Jim seemed to be enjoying pulling the sledge as he had about 6 goes of it.

The next tractor to challenge the sledge was True Blue with driver Sandy Simpson, for the Prostock (under 401 cui) Class. In the first pull True Blue, and Scotch Mist with Andy Wallace for the same class, were stopped before the 70m mark, but True Blue then went to 115.43m in his second run and Scotch Mist got 117.40m. It then came down to the Pull-off and Sandy on it with True Blue beating Andy and Scotch Mist by just over 7 metres.

Next class to take on the sledge was Prostock (over 401 cui). Pist n Broke went the full length of the track and got the full pull. Driver Alex Rearie was very pleased with this. The second time he was out on to the track, the John Deere didn’t seem to be offering to leave the starting line. But he came on again just before the end of the day and proved that Pist n Broke wasn’t finished for the day and did another full pull.

The Superstocks then came to the track, with Ian Ross and Magnum Force going first. Ian drove the Case International all the way to 119.42m. This showed that his new turbo was working well. Perkoil Express and Davie Gall stepped to the starting line next. They too got a full pull but it was 2 metres short of Magnum Force’s. the next time that the Superstocks returned, Perkoil Express went first. Something was obviously wrong in the eyes of the audience as Davie only managed up to 10.13m. Magnum Force went on and again went for the full pull and again succeeded.

Overall, Angus Show organisers felt that the number of tractors was adequate enough to make it a very organised event and it helped make the event nice and easy to prepare and tidy up. They also thanked us for our politeness and kindness overall.
